A preliminary study on life events of Psychiatric Admission Cases

Abstract
In order to investigate the precipitating events which were experienced before 6 months from the onset of psychiatric disorders, the author reviewed 197 cases who were admitted at the department of neuropsychiatry from Jan. 1981 to Aug. 1982, and the data were compared with the diagnostic groups and sociodemological factors.
The results were as followings.
1. Among the cases, schizophrenia was 98 cases(49.7%), affective disorder, 15 cases(7.6 %) , neuroses, 62 cases(31.5 %) and others, 22 cases(11.2 %) .
2. When compared the precipitating events with sex, men showed the highest frequency in individual life scales(39, 32.0%) and then adjustment scales(34, 27.9%) were followed. Women showed the highest frequency in marital life scales (39, 26.7%) and then individual(37, 25.3%) and family life scales(36, 24.7%) were followed.
3. When compared the precipitating events with age, in adolescent stage both family and individual life scales showed highest frequency(36, 40.0%) and then school life- scales were followed(23, 25.6 %). In adult stage the highest was marital life scales(34, 26.4%) and in involutional-senile stage, family life scales were highest. (16, 32.7%)
4. When compared the precipitating events with diagnostic categories, individual life(31.6 % ), school and occupational life(25.6 %) and marital life scales(18.8 % ) were noted as higher scoring scales in schizophrenia and in neuroses family life (28.9%), individual life(26.5%,) economic life(20.5%) and marital life scales (19.3%) were ranked as higher scoring scales.
5. The factor analysis showed that in schizophrenia sexual problems, adjustmental problems were significantly frequent events(p<0.01) and in neuroses damage in self-esteem, economic loss and marital disharmony were significantly frequent events(p<0.01).
